Debut 2008 at FIDM

Moving to California has kind of turned us into fashion guru's. We sure don't know everything, but have found our niche in the fashion world. A lot of it is due to living close to my Aunt Anne who works at FIDM in L.A. On Friday, she invited us to go to Debut 2008. This is a fashion show (with a runway and everything) for the graduating students of fashion design at the school. 11 students showed their work and as our favorite person, Christian Siriano, would say, "It was so fierce." We saw a lot of awesome, innovative clothes with amazing prints and structure. Roger's phone was the best camera we had, so please forgive the horrible picture quality.



This is us at the beginning of the show. Don't be fooled, there isn't anyone famous behind us that we are trying to get in the picture. We just can't aim.

I wish this could be bigger, but you'll just have to squint. Announcing scholarships for the next year was the dean of the fashion design and ALSO Nick Verreos, who was on Project Runway, Season 2. He is an alumni of FIDM, so he's kind of a big deal there.

They started out with the theater and costume design group. This year, they had a Moulin Rouge theme. They did this whole thing modeling the clothes, but they also had can-can dancers (costumes made at FIDM as well) come out and perform. It was pretty entertaining.




This "high flying lady" (it was something like that) came and did a few tricks on the thing she's sitting on. (I am really at a loss of words for some reason right now.) Her costume was made by a
student as well.

Here is a more clear picture. This student had a very Europe during the 20's and 30's look to the clothes she designed. (It's kind of hard to tell, but I am almost 100% positive that the girl in the front left is the girl that was just voted off of America's Next Top Model, for those of you who watch that show.)




This student worked with Aunt Anne a lot because she made an entire men's line of clothing out of knit. And not your normal knit clothing, but big knit, like you would do for a big comfy scarf or blanket or something. It wasn't our favorite, but it was very unique and the girl did a good job making the clothes. Apparently knit is trying to be "in" these days.






At the end, all the models came out wearing different pieces from the students.




After the show, we made our way over to my aunt who just happened to have been sitting by Nick. Although we didn't bother to get a picture with him, we did get one of him and this random lady. But, Roger did pat him on the arm as we walked away.
